I am broadly interested in understanding the neural bases for prosocial behaviors and how these neural networks evolved across vertebrates. In the O'Connell lab, I focus on the neural basis for parent-offspring communication in poison frogs and how offspring cues can tune the parental brain. This knowledge will inform the field about the evolution of parental care across vertebrates. I am interested in science education advocacy and bridging economic, cultural, and social divides within science.
Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, I spend my free time exploring California. I enjoy creative expression, such as making comics relating to my life as a graduate student.
