The O'Connell Lab participates in various outreach programs both in public school classrooms across the United States and in South America. Our goal is to teach both children and adults about rainforest biodiversity, amphibian conservation, bioinformatics, and generally about how science is awesome.
Public engagement to share our love for science is a founding principle of the laboratory. We also believe that a diverse and inclusive workforce is critical to tackling scientific challenges. As such, we do not offer unpaid internships as they promote socioeconomic divides in science. All students are either paid for their contributions to the lab or receive class credit.
